Dog training allows you to accustom your pet to compliance and order. With an animal that has mastered at least essential commands and understands what the owner wants from him, life is much easier. Untrained dogs do not obey the owner, spoil various things in the house, go to the toilet anywhere, run away on a walk, chase cats and mongrels, gnaw on leather dog collars, and generally cause a lot of trouble and problems to their owner. Therefore, training must definitely be given engagement.

The Main Styles of Training

All existing puppy training programs can be divided into two main categories.

  1. Basic – for compliance. Includes the simplest and most necessary commands in everyday life, such as “nearby,” “place,” “to me,” “not allowed,” and “sit.” This is the basis for comfortable interaction with the dog on a walk and at home – the dog learns to approach the owner at the first call, stop or start certain actions, and take the desired position.
  2. Special. A doggie training category aimed at developing the dog’s professional skills required in a particular area. This applies to service and hunting dogs and rescue dogs.

The first category can be learned independently at home. Professionals mostly trust the second.

How to Train Your Dog Yourself: Is It Possible?

If you have at least minimal experience, an understanding of dog behavior, and initial contact with the pet, you can handle it on your own. This option has its advantages:

  • With the right strategy for training, you will maintain your adhesive with your canine, spend more time with him, and form a bond faster.
  • Training your dog is a kind of “pair dance.” The dog will communicate with you, and you will learn its “language.” You will begin to understand your four-legged friend better.
  • By gaining experience in self-training, even if you later decide to use the services of a trainer, it will be easier for you to find a specialist who is right for you and your pet. You will better comprehend what the instructor is doing and why.

It also has disadvantages:

  • Sometimes when training a dog on our own, we find ourselves at a dead end, not knowing how to resolve this or that situation. A professional can suggest a simple and elegant way out of the impasse. And thereby running up the technique of dog training.
  • Suppose domestic training is most often available to a non-professional, having decided to engage in special doggie training (for example, one of the kinds of cynological sports). In that case, an amateur most often encounters difficulties.

How to Train a Dog With a Trainer

Some owners, not confident in their abilities, prefer to trust a professional. But this option also has its advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits of dog training with a trainer:

  1. As already mentioned, this is a view from the outside – sometimes, this is very valuable. Yes, you can film yourself, but it’s better if your actions are corrected “here and now” – then you can focus solely on the dog.
  2. A trainer, due to his experience, has dealt with a large number of different dogs. In case of difficulties, a good instructor will offer a variant of overcoming difficulties suitable for you and your dog.
  3. A suitable trainer knows a lot of techniques, exercises, and games that you haven’t actually heard of but that your dog will most likely appreciate and make the activity process more enjoyable for all involved and more effective.

But this option also has disadvantages:

  1. There is a risk of making the wrong choice of instructor. This trap often falls into inexperienced owners or those not well versed in dogs’ behavior.
  2. Instructors who work with the “in-line method” sometimes “blur their eyes” and use formulaic methods without considering your particular dog’s particular characteristics.

Necessary Accessories

To train a pet, you need to acquire some accessories:

  1. The dog will always be in the control zone on the long leash and leather collar. It is better to choose high-quality canvas models – they are durable but soft, withstand jerks well, and do not injure the hand. Choose premium options at a reasonable price.
  2. Toys – it is important that the dog likes them, arouses interest, and is ready to bring them, for example, by performing the “fetch” command.
  3. Treats – various treats are excellent encouragement and greatly simplify the puppy training process.
  4. Treat Pouch – It is more convenient to carry the best dog rewards in your pocket than in a belt pouch.
